Blackstone promotes real estate boss to president in succession move

Private equity giant names its successor to chief operating officer and president Tony James

Blackstone Group has handed the head of its $115bn real estate business day-to-day management of the alternatives investment giant, with Tony James stepping down as president and chief operating officer.

News of the move comes as the world's largest private equity firms begin to prepare the ground for the next generation of leaders, with the likes of Apollo Global Management, Carlyle Group and KKR having taken similar steps over the past year.
