Blackstone frontrunner for €12bn Wind deal

Seven to ten banks stand ready to fund bid

A Blackstone-led consortium has moved up as firm favourite to buy 63% of Wind, the telecoms arm of Italian utility Enel, after fractures appeared in the consortium of rival bidders Weather Investments.

The Blackstone consortium has gained the upper hand in negotiations following the revelation that Apax Partners and Wilbur Ross, two of the financial sponsors associated with the Weather Investment syndicate have effectively dropped out of the equity financing.
