Bloomberg has bolstered its nascent broking business with the hire of a former head of equities at specialist broker Instinet. The information giant, seeking to diversify into new revenue streams, has been building a global trading business since 1996.

Peter Howard, who was most recently head of equities, sales and trading at specialist electronic brokerage Instinet Europe, has joined Bloomberg's Tradebook franchise, according to sources familiar with the situation.
