The board members of the Securites Industry Association and the Bond Market Association have agreed to merge their two organisations to form a new industry group called the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. The new groups still needs to be ratified by member firms.

The merger proposal, which is set to be voted on at the end of next month, is designed to give the industry greater clout in lobbying, and to reflect a growing trends of trading across asset classes and borders.
