BNP Paribas calls on outside advice for BancWest deal

BNP Paribas used Merrill Lynch to advise on its acquisition of a 55% stake in US financial services group BancWest, without using any of its own corporate financiers.

Generally, if banks choose to use external corporate financiers for their own M&A deals they tend to do so in conjunction with their own internal specialists. However, BNP Paribas relied solely on Merrill Lynch for corporate finance advice.
