Boris Johnson refuses to step down as resignations rock Downing Street: ‘The question now is not if but when he quits’

Johnson is refusing to step aside, according to one senior aide, and has quickly appointed loyalists to replace treasury chief, Rishi Sunak, and health secretary, Sajid Javid

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was working to cling to power amid a growing mutiny in his party and the resignation of two of his most senior ministers.

Johnson moved quickly on 5 July to stem a rebellion in his cabinet after his treasury chief and health secretary quit saying they no longer had confidence in the prime minister. The next day, three more junior ministers left his government in protest following a series of scandals and questions about the British leader’s integrity.
