UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to step down today as the scale of opposition to his leadership mounted in protest over unsatisfactory explanations around the hire of a senior Tory member embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal.

The BBC reported that Johnson will resign as Conservative leader, but continue as prime minister until autumn. The broadcaster said a campaign to replace Johnson will take place this summer. A new leader could be ready in time for the October Tory party conference.
