Credit Suisse First Boston has advised on the year's largest European cross-border M&A transaction after its client NBC snatched Vivendi Universal Entertainment from under the nose of Edgar Bronfman.

The decision by Vivendi to enter exclusive talks with NBC brings the marathon eight month auction, which has been described by some bankers as an "auction without rules", to its final stages.
