Brown ignores stamp duty debate

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown has today chosen to ignore the repeated warnings made by the investment community, to abolish the 0.5% stamp duty currently levied on UK equity trades.

Fund managers, private client stockbrokers and the London Stock Exchange argue that an urgent review is needed to maintain business in the UK, and discourage investors from choosing to invest in other countries which have a lower levy.
