CAC 40 index weighting to be calculated by free float

The French CAC 40, the Euronext Paris benchmark index, is changing its method of calculating companies' weighting in the index to base it on free float rather than on market capitalisation.

The change will take effect from December 2003, and follows similar moves from the Deutsche Börse last June and Stoxx and FTSE in July 2000.
