Cantor Fitzgerald, the interdealer broker, is planning to start a private equity fund and has hired a former UBS Investment Bank managing director to head the new group.

The fund, to be called Cantor Capital Partners, will focus on middle-market investments. The size of the fund and its sector focus have yet to be determined.
