Carlyle has emerged as a potential bidder for a stake in Manchester United, becoming the latest private equity giant to show signs of appetite for football investment.

The US buyout shop is reportedly involved in talks to acquire a minority stake in the English Premier League football club, which has been put up for sale by its current owners the Glazer family.
