CBOE third quarter net profit soars on improved margins and fee revenue

The US's largest equity options exchange group enjoys a record quarter on the back of market volatility

CBOE Holdings third-quarter earnings more than doubled as massive market turbulence helped the exchange operator book a double-digit jump in revenue.

The parent of the Chicago Board Options Exchange joined a slew of other exchange operators who have benefited from soaring trading volumes resulting from the macroeconomic troubles in the US and Europe. Fears over Greece and the eurozone's sovereign debt crisis as well as worries about US growth have prompted investors to adjust their positions and hedge for risk.
