Central bankers not yet ready to greenlight retail digital coin

Central bank policymakers around the world are all looking intently at developing central digital currencies as the use of hard cash wanes but they have yet to decide on giving a retail CBDC the green light.

Even if the decision was to go ahead with one, a CBDC rollout for an advanced economy would not be expected until the second half of the decade, the Bank of England's fintech director Tom Mutton said.
