Councillor Kieran Quinn, the chairman of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund and leader of Tameside Council, died on Christmas Day, according to a statement from the local authority.
The councillor, who had chaired the £21.3bn fund since 2010 and oversaw its growth into one of the UK's biggest and most influential investors, was delivering Christmas cards to constituents on Saturday 23 when he suffered a fall precipitated by a heart attack, the council said. He died two days later.
