Chancellor bids to tempt private equity funds with tax tweaks

Lawyers working for the industry say moves to iron out the rules for credit, private equity and real estate funds might enable the UK to take on Cayman and Luxembourg

The UK government will be reviewing its funds regime in a bid to lure alternative investment managers, such as private equity groups, to set up funds in the country.

Alongside its 2020 Budget, the UK government launched a consultation on the taxation and regulation of the intermediate entities through which alternative funds hold assets, known as limited partnerships. This is intended to “gather evidence and explore the attractiveness of the UK as a location”.
