Chancellor extends furlough scheme until end of October

The job retention scheme will remain unchanged until July, and employers will be able to bring back workers part-time from August

UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak has extended the government’s job retention scheme to October as businesses grapple with the economic challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

Rishi Sunak said that 7.5 million people had now been furloughed under the scheme and were having part of their wages paid by the government. This figure is up from over 6m on May 4.
