Former Bank of England economist lambasts regulatory agenda

Charles Goodhart says the outlook for the financial services industry is "uniquely uncertain" in light of the looming regulation

A raft of misguided regulation is heading for the banking sector which could endanger its immediate recovery, according to one of Europe’s leading economists.

Charles Goodhart, former member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee and emeritus professor at the London School of Economics, told delegates at the Sibos Big Issue debate yesterday that much of the scheduled regulatory reform has got it wrong.
