Chicago Mercantile squares up to European threat

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange is to partner the London-based inter-dealer broker Tullett Liberty, in its first venture into the over-the-counter derivatives markets.

Under the terms of the proposed plan, Tullett will create a central marketplace for forward rate agreements - short tem interest rate hedges - for which the Chicago Mercantile will provide clearing services.
