Citigroup beats Commerzbank to Polish target

Citigroup, the US financial services group, yesterday confirmed plans to buy Bank Handlowy, Poland's leading corporate bank for $1bn, reports the Financial Times.

The deal would be the second acquistion this year for the US bank, which last month took over the investment arm of Schroders.
