Banco de Sabadell, the Spanish bank, has hired Citigroup to advise it on a possible bid for rival Banco Atlántico as corporate financiers take sides in the final round of consolidation in Spain's financial services sector.

Sabadell said in a statement to the Spanish stock exchange that it had mandated Citigroup to study a possible offer to take control of the bank.
