Citigroup's stock traders were the standout performers within its investment bank in the first three months of 2018, helping to cushion continued falls at its much larger bond trading division.

According to the bank's first-quarter results on Friday, Citi's group revenues increased 3% year-on-year to almost $19bn, which helped drive a 13% rise in net profits to $4.6bn.
