The London Stock Exchange should open later in the morning, and not shut earlier in the afternoon, according to City trade bodies — because there is “no discernible benefit” to overlapping with Asian market hours.

The UK’s principal market has been considering plans to cut trading hours since December, following a campaign led by the Association of Financial Markets in Europe, representing bankers and traders, and the Investment Association, representing fund managers. News of their initiative was first reported by Financial News in August.
