Fund managers need to bring about a “step change” in their attitude to sustainable investing, according to a UK government taskforce, which is now pushing for a series of changes to law and regulation to enforce its aims.
The asset management taskforce — chaired by City minister John Glen — is calling for a review of company law to make shareholder resolutions easier to file; for the government to enforce the disclosure of CO2 emissions at both public and private firms; and the creation of a UK “Council of Pension Schemes” to oversee the industry’s takeup of responsible investment practices, among many other recommendations.
