The number of City workers hitting the pavement looking for new work has reached its highest level in five years, but the pool of available jobs is dwindling, indicating the jobs market could be running out of steam.

There was a 28% increase in jobseekers in the London financial services sector in the third quarter of 2022 compared to a year ago, according to employment consultancy Morgan McKinley. This was the highest since 2017.
