Comment: McCreevy's climbdown will hurt European competitiveness

No cheers for European Union internal market commissioner Charlie McCreevy, who has decided to abandon plans obliging EU companies to respect the principle of "one share, one vote".

McCreevy gave the following reasoning to justify his decision: "There is no economic evidence of a causal link between deviations from the so-called 'proportionality principle' and the economic performance of companies."
