Comment: Merger failure casts doubt over Breuer

The collapse of Deutsche Bank's merger with Dresdner is a devastating setback for Rolf Breuer, Deutsche's chairman, from which he will find it hard to recover.

His strategy to tackle Deutsche's unrewarding domestic retail banking business is now in tatters. He has lost a key member of the Vorstand, Michael Dobson, who resigned because of the damage the merger would inflict on Deutsche's asset management business.
