Commerzbank to establish financial sponsors group

Matthew Roeser has joined Commerzbank as the founding global head of its new financial sponsors group in a bid to take a bigger share of private equity deal flow, particularly in Germany.

Commerzbank said it has already been active in arranging and underwriting €1.4bn ($1.4bn) worth of leveraged European transactions. Mark Eban, the head of capital markets at Commerzbank Securities and Roeser's new boss, said: "We see significant scope to expand our financial sponsors business in Europe." The bank has recently added syndicated loans, structured acquisition finance and private equity to its services.
