Coronavirus R-rate rises in London as cases multiply

The UK government said the national reproduction or R number for the coronavirus pandemic has increased from 0.7 to 0.9 — approaching the dangerously high value of one, which indicates the number of infections may start rising rapidly once again.

If the R rate — which indicates the average number of secondary infections produced by a single infected individual — is greater than one, the epidemic is growing, the government said on its website on 10 July.
