Covid-19 company bailouts should be ‘exceptionally rare’, says Chancellor

'I think the bar for that kind of intervention is very high,' Rishi Sunak told the Treasury Committee on 15 July

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has stressed he is not comfortable with the government taking equity stakes in struggling companies to bail them out during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s not something that I think the government should get into the business or habit of doing,” Rishi Sunak told the Treasury Committee, which is tasked with holding the government and the City to account.
