Credit Suisse has unveiled a sweeping overhaul of its business, announcing plans to combine its investment banking and trading units as its new chief executive Thomas Gottstein makes his mark on the Swiss lender.

The Swiss bank will merge its investment banking and trading units, reversing a move by former CEO Tidjane Thiam to split the divisions five years ago, after its advisory business has struggled over the past year.
