Cross-selling by auditors is under review

The Enron debacle has revived the issue of auditor independence. On both sides of the Atlantic there have been calls to ban audit firms providing non-audit work to companies whose books they review.

A review of the cross-selling of services by audit firms in Europe is hindered by poor disclosure. While all audit and non-audit fees must be disclosed by companies in the UK, few continental European markets are as transparent.
