Credit Suisse First Boston on Tuesday arranged a lightning fast £193m (€303.3m) share placement for Bank of Scotland in the midst of its merger negotiations with Abbey National.

The shares were sold to to institutional investors in the UK and Europe. The entire transaction was completed in little more than an hour, through an accelerated book building process.
