The UK has issued a veiled threat to ministers in Europe that a failure to reach an agreement on Britain's exit from the EU could harm European banks in London.

David Davis, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, has privately warned European ministers that a breakdown in Brexit talks would be damaging to European banks based in the UK.
