David Wright, the European Commission's deputy director-general for internal markets, is stepping down in September to become a fellow at Oxford University's St Anthony's College.
Wright earned a place in the FN100 list of most influential people in Europe in 2009 after piloting through a string of financial reforms, having joined the commission in 1977. In his time, he was seen as one of the wisest officials in Europe - making an impact on the asset management and banking industry.
