Davis quits Merrill

Tom Davis has resigned his role of overseeing research and private equity at Merrill Lynch in the middle of the well-publicised investigation into the firm's equity research.

Davis, who has been at Merrill for 25 years, is quitting eight months after taking the job. He has agreed to remain at the firm until November 1, David Komansky, chairman and chief executive of Merrill said in an internal memo.
