Davos will not be the same with no-shows and no snow

Busy diaries, Zoom, green concerns and no skiing all add up to an event that has lost its appeal for many — and that is being overtaken by others as the place to be

There will be something very different about the World Economic Forum’s schmooze-fest in Davos this year. Not only is it being held in May rather than the traditional January because of the pandemic, it will also be without Jamie Dimon. The JPMorgan chief executive will not be hosting the bank’s usual star-studded party and will not be making late night appearances in the Swiss resort’s famous piano bar.

Dimon is not snubbing the event. It is just that JPMorgan’s top brass need to be in New York that week for the bank’s investor day. Insiders expect them to be back in force next year.
