Deutsche Börse to set up new technology index

Deutsche Börse has unveiled its new indices, including a new TecDAX index, to track the 30 largest equities in the technology sector, when the German exchange closes down the Neuer Markt, its growth market, next year.

The Neuer Markt was set up five years ago to attract technology stocks but investors and issuers have lost confidence in the market since the TMT crash and accounting scandals involving some of the listed companies. The Nemax 50, the benchmark index for the Neuer Markt, will continue to be calculated until the end of 2004, as there are a number of financial products that are based on this index.
