Deutsche Bank is set to appeal after a Munich court found the German bank and Rolf Breuer, its former chairman, liable to compensate Leo Kirch, the Bavarian media mogul, over comments that contributed to the collapse of Kirch Gruppe, the bankrupt media empire.
Kirch is suing Deutsche Bank and Breuer for €100m ($107m) in damages in a heavyweight German legal battle that began in February 2002 after Breuer, in an interview with Bloomberg Television, seemed to question the creditworthiness of Kirch, one of the bank's main corporate clients.
