John Smith, previously head of international equities research at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette is taking over as global head of equities from Nick Bannister at ABN Amro.

Smith was one of the most senior DLJ staff not to join Credit Suisse First Boston when it acquired DLJ last year. Smith had previously been global head of research and head of UK equities at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell. Between 1988 and 1996 he was at UBS, where he became head of UK and European research and had additional responsibility for UK and European sales and trading.
