BGF boosts Edinburgh team

The state-backed fund set up to invest in small to medium-sized UK businesses has continued its policy of hiring expertise from outside the private equity industry

The Business Growth fund has added a new director to its Edinburgh office from retailer Cruise Fashion, reflecting the firm’s policy of hiring expertise outside of the private equity industry.

Duncan Macrae has joined the BGF as an investment director with responsibility for identifying investable businesses in Scotland and the North of England. Macrae was previously the finance director of retailer Cruise Fashion, in which the entrepreneur Mike Ashley bought a majority stake last month for around £7m.
