Securitisation may have a lingering bad name from the financial crisis, but the European Commission likes it.
More precisely, the Commission believes that "high quality" securitisations can be identified that pose less risk and could qualify for more relaxed capital rules than other securitisations. The hope is that by opening up new sources of credit, such instruments can play a role in the Commission plan for a Capital Markets Union that will invigorate European growth.
