Covid-19 pandemic pushes UniCredit top brass to give up bonuses

The ECB is threatening legally binding measures for banks that do not show restraint

UniCredit’s top management is waiving its entire 2020 bonus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, announcing the move hours after Europe’s central bank urged restraint on such payouts.

The Milan-based lender’s remuneration committee met on 31 March and acknowledged the decision made by the bank’s executives, who will instead contribute the equivalent to support social initiatives.
