EdF gets €11bn green light from Sarkozy

Strong start for Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhone

The French Government has kicked off the country's record equity sale by endorsing the findings of an independent commission, which recommended a capital increase of up to €11bn ($14.5bn) for Electricité de France.

The move was announced after Wednesday's weekly cabinet meeting, the last to be attended by Nicolas Sarkozy, the finance minister, before he leaves the government next week to become chairman of President Jacques Chirac's ruling UMP party.
