Top City executives reveal their hopes and fears about the UK’s upcoming general election

Hopes that a newly-elected UK government will be able push for a softer Brexit deal have swept across the City since Prime Minister Theresa May announced there would be a snap general election on June 8.

A strong Conservative majority that is not domineering and the ability to negotiate a deal on passporting and equivalence in Brexit talks are the most cited wishes of senior executives in financial services, many of whom said there was little market uncertainty arising from the process.
