London Club to restructure $30bn of Soviet-era debt in Eurobond issue

Optimism about Russia's economic potential under President Vladimir Putin is likely to prove good news for its bond markets, tightening spreads and boosting investment.

But whatever Putin does, neither Russia nor the Ukraine have any prospect of crossing the chasm that has opened up between them and the rest of emerging Europe, where spreads are closing with those of other European sovereign issuers. Russian and Ukrainian debt has, in effect, become a separate market.
