Paul Singer-led hedge fund, one of the world’s most prominent shareholder activists, gets serious about buyouts

Elliott Management, one of Wall Street’s best-known hedge funds, is accelerating its push into private equity.

The firm, led by billionaire Paul Singer, recently closed a $2bn war chest for private equity-style takeovers, according to people familiar with the matter. Elliott has gained fame from activist investing campaigns targeting companies such as AT&T Inc.
