England could be set for a New Year lockdown as the country grapples with the new fast-spreading strain of the coronavirus and the government warns restrictions could be increased.

Sky News reported that on 30 December, the date of the next review of the tier system, much of the country is expected to join London and the South-east in Tier 4, which has the toughest restrictions.
