E.ON, the German utility, must bid for Swedish energy company Sydkraft by 1 February, according to the country's chief stock market regulator.

E.ON confirmed on Thursday that it will make an offer for Sydkraft. The company did not give precise details as to the time of the offer or whether the full terms would be made public.
