No Brexit breakthrough: EU and UK agree to continue deal talks

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have agreed to "further discussions" in a final effort to secure a Brexit deal.

Johnson and von der Leyen "had a frank discussion about the significant obstacles which remain in the negotiations" over a three-hour dinner on 9 December, according to a statement from the prime minister's office.
